Superblog =)

Blogging this semester was very different then my other classes.  I have never had an English class that uses blogs before.  This was a very interesting experience.  There are a few issues with the blogs good and bad.  Most of these issues are easily fixed.  Hopefully next semester these issues can be resolved so your next class has less hassles.  Some of the issues involve groups, dates, blog topics, and others.  I believe if some of these issues are resolved it will be a better experience for you and your students.  Not all of the issues are bad though. There was many good issues about the blogs as well.
One of the main issues since the beginning of the semester was groups.  You put all of the students into certain groups.  We all created blogs and subscribed to each other.  This was a good idea, but not all of the students keep up with their blog so sometimes it would be hard for the students to comment on others blogs because they could not find one.  Next semester you could put up a chart on moodle that shows the most frequent bloggers with a link to their blog.  This would help the issue of not being able to find others blogs to comment on because they would be able to go to moodle and find out who keeps up with their blog.
As college students we should be responsible and keep up with what is due on certain days. Even though we should remember sometimes we forget if we have to much work or and excessive amount of projects.  I am not totally sure if you can do this, but I know one of my other classes sends out reminders via moodle and to our email.  So if you can set moddle to send out an email to your student every Tuesday and Thursday saying something like “Hey the blog is due tomorrow, don not forget” this could help the student remember and even increase blog productivity.  Honestly this is not a necessity, because we should be responsible and remember on our own, but sometimes we forget due to a lot of work loads.
Not all aspect of the blog are bad though.  Giving others ideas and debating over opinions is a good thing in this English class.  I liked the fact that we were able to give our own opinion, and not get fully persecuted for it.  The best part about the blog is that it replaced the quiz grades.  No one enjoys quizzes that much so this replacing the quiz grade was beneficial in my opinion.  Most of the blogs that we did were very interesting and intriguing.  I especially like the blogs that we used the book for.  With most of my classes we don’t even use the books we bought, but the blogs that involved the books felt like I did not waste my money by buying them.  Only issue I had with that was that we should have had more blogs dealing with the book.  That way we would be using it more for the class.
One thing that should have been implemented more is the stories form the book as blog topics.  Those were the more interesting blogs in my opinion.  It made me feel that I  was actually using the book I paid for.  They did have some good stories in the book that could have been used as blog topics.  To make the blogs more interesting you could take one of the weeks and have the students choose a story out of the book to write about that week.  You would have to make a guideline by which to do the blog post, but it would be a change of pace from the normal blogs.
Other than the few issue I mentioned that could be dealt with depending on your opinion I really did not have any other trouble or problems with the blog.  It was a very interesting experience in this English class and I definitely will not forget it.  This English 101 class was very enjoyable and hopefully the students in this class next semester will enjoy it just as much.

Intro To Paper 4

There are many issues that need to be dealt with at UL Lafayette.  One of the issues that effect me the most in my college life is the technology.  I live in stokes currently now don't get me wrong I love living here, but not all of the rooms have internet access and the Cafe Fleur De Lis closes at 11:45.  If i have homework i need to do late at night I would have to walk to the Conference Center or sit outside the Fleur De Lis and try to get a good connection.  I know that they are destroying Stokes soon, but to be honest i like Stokes a lot and I would like them to keep it.  If the school just invested a little money into refurbishing Stokes and possibly upgrade the internet into the dorms then it would be a more suitable place to live.  I'm not saying that it isn't currently I'm just implying that it could be much better.

A Week in the Swag of a Part Time Teacher

1a. They could double check to make sure that all the classes were booked properly.
1a-i. It would not be that hard for them to do, it would just take time.'
1b. Assign every teacher a classroom beforehand.
1b-i. Only would take time to make sure

2. It effected them in ways, it made some sad that she would not be teaching them next semester and other problems.

3a. They could propose the make more classes for teachers such as he to teach.
3a-i. It might cost some money and her salary but it would offer the students more scheduled courses.
3b. They could propose for Claitor to get her job back.
3b-i. This would only cost her salary and class expenses, and some time on the schools behalf

4. The school didnt think the students needed her classes
4a. The school was cutting back funds
4b. The school had to do these things

5a. That they need these courses to teach
5b. They students need the courses to take

To be completely honest I didn't really enjoy the story that much.

Classwork 11-7-11

1a. I can explain how much job satisfaction actually does relate to career success.

1c. Job satisfaction is a big part of career success, but not the most important.  Job satisfaction is being content with your job. Career success is actually getting somewhere with your job and full career.

3b. Job satisfaction may be an important role in career success, but it is not the most import factor in my opinion.  Being happy with your job and being successful at the same time is rare; so like I previously stated you can have one extreme or the other, but receiving both in your life time is a hard task and it will take a lot of searching.

WEEK TEN: GROUP BRAINSTORM SESSION

No job satisfaction is not the most important factor in career success because you might hate your job and be very successful, and just the opposite.

Job satisfaction can be if your content with the location your at, if you actually enjoy what you do, and your satisfied with your position and the way people treat you.

Career success can be defined by the position you are currently at in your company, how much income you have, and if you can provide for yourself and your family.

If your very successful in your career, but you are not satisfied with your job that means its not that much of a key factor. Same as if you love your job but cannot provide for yourself and your family.

Assessing Your Essay Author's Rhetorical Situation

Robert D. King is a professor who wrote "Should English Be The Law?".  He uses many methods to get his point across.  King is a strong believer in how the English language should be the national language in america. He has many facts and examples he uses in his essay.  His three main points are what the "Official" English actually is, how nationality ties into this, and how other countries keep their official language while still having other languages used in that country. Should English be the official language of America?

"On Self-Respect" by Joan Didion - Prompt #6

1) I think the allusions are somewhat good and some bad on the reader. A good bit of the analogies she uses are confusing, but others actually helped me understand he point better. With the harder to understand analogies it does seem a bit alienating, but the easier to understand ones made me feel more enlightened by what she wrote.


2) Her thoughts on self respect are mainly agreeable. Most of the things she said i believe most people would agree with. She states "one runs away to find oneself, but find no one at home" i believe that she is saying if you have no self respect you truly do not know who you are and you are at a lost. To be honest the commitment of adultery and the statements she said about "courage of their mistakes" and "character" confused me because if you were to commit adultery in the first place you have no respect for yourself and other. 


3) The thought of self respect being a "discipline" is correct. You need to be able to maintain your self respect thought discipline. Self respect cannot be faked as she said, if you have no self respect it will show completely in your character and how you act. If you try and fake self respect it will be completely noticeable. The way these relate to writing is that face that you need to discipline youself to keep good writing skills as is needed to keep self respect. Having good writing skills is a state of mind and can not be faked just like self respect.
